Junior Definitions:

BOARD MEETINGS: meetings held on the last Monday of the month. The executive boards as well as all department heads attend to discuss business for the upcoming meeting. Any other member is welcome to attend if they have new business to bring before the board.

BUSINESS MEETINGS: meetings held on the second Wed. of each month at 8PM at the Community Ctr. This is a general meeting where everyone attends and all department chairs give reports on current projects and events.

EXECUTIVE BOARD: President, Vice President, 2nd Vice President (runs fundraising), 3rd Vice President (membership), Recording Secretary (takes minutes at all meetings), Treasurer (handles all monies for the club) Corresponding Secretary (handles club correspondence) and Federation Secretary (handles all State related programs)

DEPARTMENT CHAIRPEOPLE: consists of the members that head all the departments in the club. Adopt A Family, Communications, Historian, Newsletter Editor, Fundraising, Education, Home and Health Life, Hospitality, Art Music Drama, State Project Chairperson, Community Improvement Project, and International. All other members join a department and make up the committee.

ADOPT A FAMILY: is a committee that works closely with the Verona Health and Welfare Department to help provide necessities for families in town. The committee members work with local restaurants who provide food for families, set up wish trees at Christmas time, run Shop and Drop twice a year, and the Bunny Brunch at Easter Time. This department also helps pay for needs requested by the Health and Welfare Department.

Wish Trees: are small Christmas trees that are set up by The Adopt A Family Committee in local establishments (Library, Community Ctr., etc..). The trees have gift ideas that the families that we help during this time of year have requested to receive. The community purchases these items and the Juniors deliver the items to the family.

Shop and Drop: is typically held at Kings in Verona. We simply ask shoppers who are entering the store to purchase an extra item as they shop and drop it to us as they exit. The items collected from the day are then sorted and donated to the families in town that need them. Shop and Drop is an event that happens twice a year.

Bunny Brunch: is an Easter party for young children. This is event is open to the public. It is a major fundraiser for the external budget for Adopt A Family. This is large event and the juniors have typically provided donated food, a craft for the kids to do, pictures with the Easter Bunny to all guests, and goody bags.

HOME LIFE DEPARTMENT: is a committee that helps coordinate new mother’s meals (members of our club that have recently delivered often receive a home cooked meal from a fellow junior). This committee also coordinates Letters to Santa, and runs the Breakfast with Santa during the holidays.

Letters to Santa: is mailbox is set up at the Verona Post Office where local children can drop their letters to Santa. The Juniors answer these letters and mail them back.

COMMUNICATIONS: prepare and submit press releases to the media.

HISTORIAN: is the photographer for the club. At the end of the year the Historian creates and presents a Scrapbook/photo album to the President/s.

EDUCATION: coordinates the Spelling Bee held once a year. This is a big community event that the club organizes. This committee also coordinates the stocking of the school pantries and making the cupcakes for D.A.R.E.

HOSPITALITY: is a committee that plans the Holiday party in the winter. They also recruit members to host the Board Meetings.

COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT: is a club voted on project and is a two-year commitment.

INTERNATIONAL: is a committee that has separate fundraising that is used for International Projects. The International Committee coordinates the Halloween party. This is costume party for children open to the public. International also collects expired coupons and used stamps for military families.

ART/MUSIC/DRAMA: is a committee that coordinates the crafts for the children to do at the Bunny Brunch, Christmas Party, and Halloween Party. The committee also helps with the decorations for the Tricky Tray and Fall Fundraiser.

FUNDRAISING: is a committee that assists with the Tricky Tray and Fall Fundraising Events. The committee always needs extra hands to assist with invitations, soliciting, and working at the events.

Tricky Tray: is a large fundraiser run by the club in the New Year. The club typically raises the most money at this large-scale event. It is held at a banquet hall that includes dinner. Guests purchase tickets for items that are donated by local merchants. The winning ticket “wins” the item to take home that evening. Winning items or baskets range from gift certificates to local eateries to flat screen televisions and pool membership.
