<![CDATA[Halloween Family Fun Day!]]>Sat, 29 Oct 2011 00:00:00 -0800http://veronajuniors.org/1/post/2011/10/halloween-family-fun-day.html_ On behalf of the Junior Women’s Club of Verona, we would like to thank the community for supporting our recent Halloween Family Fun Day. Proceeds from the event will benefit UNICEF and help our club address the diverse needs of our community.

The Halloween Family Fun Day would not have been possible without the help of many people and businesses. Special thanks to Michael Matarazzo Landscaping for donating pumpkins and to the following businesses, which provided crafts or activities: Candy Monium, mom.com, Toddlers in Motion, Aunt Jean’s Toys and Treats, Inc., Sports Domain Academy Montclair and the Environmental Center. The Verona Recreation Department and Children’s Corner preschool in Roseland provided some of the equipment used for games. Polka Dot and Cheryl Ashley, our town librarian, entertained the children. The law offices of O’Brien and Taylor helped make copies of coloring pages for the children and flyers for the event. We truly appreciate all of their support.

We also would like to acknowledge those who donated wonderful tricky tray baskets to our event. Many thanks to Bella Salon and Spa, My Gym, Jumpnasium, Candy Monium, Nicole Kobernick from Tastefully Simple, Flair, Verona Yoga, Montclair Beadworks, Monster Mini Golf, The Chart House, Synergy Personal Training, Music Together, Toddlers in Motion and Rachael Wagner from Handpainted Names.

Last, but certainly not least, we would like to thank the administration of Verona High School for allowing us to hold our event in the cafeteria and gymnasium; Anthony Carsillo and the rest of the custodial staff for their help with set-up and clean-up; and the Verona Juniorettes for their assistance.

<![CDATA[Outstanding Year for the Verona Juniors!]]>Fri, 10 Jun 2011 03:26:28 -0800http://veronajuniors.org/1/post/2011/06/outstanding-year-for-the-verona-juniors.htmlPicture
Members of the Junior Woman’s Club of Verona recently attended the 84th annual convention of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs – Junior Membership. The Verona club received various awards, including the Diamond Dozen, which is awarded to just 12 clubs across the state for outstanding community service and volunteerism.

Other recognition for the Verona Juniors included first place for Best Work in International Outreach, awarded in part for such projects as the annual UNICEF Halloween party; first place for Best Work in Special State Project-Gilda’s Club/The Wellness Community; third place for Best Work in State Project-The Valerie Fund/Camp Happy Times; and third place for Best Work in Special Project-Advocates for Children. The club also was recognized for celebrating its 85th anniversary this year.

In addition, the 2010-11 co-presidents, Joanna Breitenbach and Lisa Golebieski, were named to the Honor Roll, which is the highest honor a clubwoman can receive.

During the past year, the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs – Junior Membership has supported The Valerie Fund as its State Project. The Valerie Fund provides support for the comprehensive health care of children with cancer and blood disorders, and the Verona Juniors have championed the cause. In fact, Verona Junior Jennifer Coppola submitted The Valerie Fund for State Project consideration. Many Juniors will participate in The Valerie Fund walk in Verona Park on June 11.

The Junior Woman’s Club of Verona continues to give back in other ways as well. The club is hosting a Shop-N-Drop outside of Kings Supermarket on June 11 between 2 and 4 p.m., and members are planning to work on a Habitat for Humanity build on June 18. Anyone interested in participating in those projects or learning more about this very active organization of women is welcome to contact membership@veronajuniors.org.
